  • Granny Smith apples: 2 large
  • Lemon: 1 for juice
  • Sugar: 1 cup
  • Butter: 1/2 cup 1 stick
  • Vanilla extract: 1/4 teaspoon
  • Canned buttermilk biscuits: 8 used to wrap the apples
  • Ground cinnamon: 4 teaspoons

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Apples: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Peel and slice the apples into 8 segments each. Dip the slices in lemon-water to prevent browning.
  • Make the Sauce: In a saucepan, combine 1 cup water with 3/4 cup sugar, butter, and vanilla. Bring to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  • Wrap the Apples: Separate the biscuits into two layers and wrap each layer around an apple slice. Seal and place them sealed-side down in a casserole dish.
  • Assemble and Bake: Pour the hot sugar mixture over the wrapped apples. Combine the remaining sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle over the dumplings. Bake for 35 minutes until golden brown.
