Hi, my name is Lou and I’m so pleased that you’ve found your way to my little cottage in the country, where I share space with my hubby, Dean, and our two mischievous ginger-point Siamese kitty cats, Bear and Lily. (You’ll meet them if you go along to their page – they insisted on having their own page on this website, with the threat of unwanted hairballs and other bodily functions being left in surprising places around the house if they didn’t get it – I, of course, gave in to them :o)
Even though the cats are native Canadians, Dean and I are originally from the UK, but after spending a couple of our annual vacations visiting British Columbia and falling in love with the people, scenery and general way of life, we decided to venture out into the big wide world and landed with both feet firmly on the ground on the west coast of Canada back in 2005. After spending two fabulous years in Victoria, the opportunity came to relocate and so we’ve now been here in our cute little cottage in rural Vancouver Island since July 2007 and life is wonderful….. It’s an area that we fell in love with many years ago, and always promised ourselves that ‘one day’ we would live here, and through hard work, planning, and a whole lot of good karma, here we are enjoying the quiet, simple life. We’re so lucky to live in this area that boasts such an abundance of fresh local produce from sweet, juicy berries of all kinds; to fields of pretty much every vegetable you could think of; from ruby red BC salmon fresh from the water, to bison meat directly from a farm just kilometres down the road. It’s even inspired us to grow our own produce in the raised vegetable beds and greenhouse that we built a couple of years ago; we also have a couple of fruit trees (apples and plums) that we’ve had the pleasure of producing the most awesome, freshly squeezed apple juice that we’ve ever tasted, and some delicious homemade plum wine – yummy!!!
I started this ‘foodie’ website in October 2010, mainly to keep me occupied while at home due to a health issue, but it has since become something of great enjoyment to me, and hopefully I’m able to pass that onto whoever happens to come across it. You’ll find that most of my recipes on here are for at least 4 servings and sometimes more. That’s simply because as far as I’m concerned one of the greatest ‘inventions’ in history is….leftovers!! Who doesn’t like that bowl of warm chilli the next day when it’s had even more time to infuse it’s delicious flavours – I’m also a big believer in making my life as easy as possible, and if it’s as simple as a pre-made ‘leftover’ meal in the freezer for those days that, just the thought of having to prepare and cook a meal is just too much trouble, then I’m all for that.
So I hope you’ll join us for a while, put your feet up, have a glass of home-made plum wine, and enjoy the peace and quiet that we call ‘home’….
